So we set out from our campsite Camping Panoramico Fiesole, and stopped in the village of Fiesole to get some bread and ham for the journey. As it was now 12.30 pm by this time, we made up our sandwiches and sat in the square, eating them. Fiesole is on the outskirts of Florence and yet it still has a village "feel" to it.

Another stop to admire the view, and we were on our way to Rome.

Sure enough, the rain came down! Quite heavy at times.
A boring motorway drive in truth, but it had to be done.
After just under 3 hours we were pulling up at a campsite to have a look at it. Happy Village Roma campsite. The reviews were not great, so it was no surprise that we took one look at it, had a walk round the washblock, and drove off. It was pretty grim.
The next one on our list sounded a bit better. And it was. Seven Hills campsite. Again, a quick look round the place and a swift decision was made. It was slightly better, but still not quite what we were looking for.
The third one on our list, Camping Village Flaminio. was a LOT better. A bit more pricey, but not too expensive. Still not on a par with German, Austrian, or French sites, but quite ok. The downside of it was that the pitches were tiny. Really tiny. Our van just fitted on the pitch. Fortunately, the site was not busy, so we made sure that there were a couple of pitches spare all round us. Otherwise, it would have been crammed in like sardines. I expect that is how it gets in the peak season.
We had our meal, played Rummikub, and went to bed nice and early, for a good start in Rome tomorrow.
I wonder if the Pope will make a point of calling by?
I doubt it!
